I've decided to be a supersensible and retire from the teaching profession for this semester. I am still going south to stay with a few friends, but it'll just be me and the books from here on in this term. After three and a half years of working through my PhD, I have the reward (achieved through a rather circuitous route!) of a semester of pure study alone. At least, all being well, I might finish it this way this year. I'm happier with this decision, so I'll be reasonable for once and go with that.
If you're reading F, sorry I didn't get a chance to pop up before I return down. I was speeding up my departure a bit to fit in with the course, but as it's set now I'll just stick with the date. I hope to see you soon though, good friend, and if you want a trip down, that could be arranged! Clothes and books and computer to pack, so I'll away. I just wanted to relieve those who were thinking I was a bit crazy for starting back to teach. I think you were right. I must have picked up the vibes. My supervisor and mother are much happier too!

I commend your decision my friend - and I can rest easier I must admit, thinking that you will not be over-working...well I know you'll be studying hard but hopefully not as many late nights and early mornings as before. I'd love to come and visit some time soon - no worries about not catching up before you returned south - I was actually off sick for a day - a touch of flu or something - and was a bit under the weather anyway. Off to Fermanagh tomorrow for the w/e to visit my 'little' friends. Take care of yourself and I hope you are firmly on the mend. Lula.
Hi Lula, that's a new one! I like it. Sorry to hear you were under the weather. I hope that is changing / has changed for the better. Take care of yourself. It's so easy to get run down. I'm glad your glad I decided as I did. It's good to have such a good friend on the same wavelength! I'll study with the thesis, but that's more sort of fun than work when there's no time pressures. I hope you had a good weekend with the li'l uns. Talk soon.
Hi Essie,
Well guess what - my good health didn't last! I've been off all of this week with the flu! I was 'as sick as a dog' (does a dog get very sick in reality?) on sunday night (up 6 times during the night) - not very pleasant..and then that must have left me open for the flu. Getting better little by little. We could write a book, me and you! Oh yeah - I forgot - we are! Hope all is going well? Remember not to push yourself or I'll come down on you like a tonne of detective novels!!
Take care, Finoodle-doodle.
I'm sorry to hear you have been so sick. Don't be rushing back to your office till you're right over it. Take it as easy as possible.
And I hope you're not getting sick just to take some of the limelight off me! I worked very hard for this position, you know!
By the way, a tonne of detective novels doesn't sound that frightening, I'm not sure why. Maybe they're not 'real' enough. Now if it was a tonne of history texts, I'd be quaking in my boots! And don't think I didn't pick up on the old writing the book motif ...
So take care of yourself, and I really do hope you feel better.
