Writing Couplets

we are a couple
because you don’t always
repeat my words
back to me

we don’t cancel each other out

we are equal and opposite
but our lines of action do not
coincide

our union is strong
stronger the more
we are separate

the further away
whilst joined
the more our love
is of moment

newton would like us
for we follow his laws
i remain at rest
unless you act upon me
our love changes depending on the
weight of what each says

to each and every action
we react

ours is not a physical love
but a dynamic situation
in which an object moves
we throw it between ourselves
like an imaginary ball
a delivery that makes us smile
when we catch it
