Being Here
All expression reveals, no matter how much we try to disguise. Sometimes it is the lengths to which we go to to disguise that really gives the real person that we are away. Words are here my chosen means of disguise, or artifice; and through these words I reveal the invisible in me to you. Dennis Potter once said that he liked it whenever authors used the word 'I', but that he would have preferred it to have been used about their real selves and not some imaginary character. Gabriel Marcel believed that whenever we create spontaneously, like inventing at a piano, we are entering into life as life is creative. Basque poets allow themselves to open up to any subject suggested to them as they rhyme in competitive spontaneity. Everyone needs a place where they can go and talk to the silence, even if they do not believe in a God, and to hear an answer come back, changed through reflection. For a little while this will be mine. 'A rested field produces a good crop' and yet while sleep repairs the mind and body, the soul requires meaning to live and meaning seeks words. These will be my fallow fields where I will relax and write for a while as the notion takes me.
